An article last year in Enterprenuer magazine, voted on the reasons why your website is not converting.
This post expands on this article, I have also rearranged the top problems in order of importance to me.
Not Being Mobile Friendly
The last time you opened a website it was either via an app on your phone or if you clicked on a link most likely it was on a mobile device. Being mobile responsive it is a great idea to pick a template (if you are on wordpress) that is mobile responsive. That just means that it is easily seen on a mobile phone without having to pinch/zoom in or out.
Low Quality Visuals
Images are one of the most important things you can display on your website. They are used to communicate with your audience and grab their attention. Aside from grabbing attention, they should also be optimized using important keywords to your website or blog posts for SEO purposes. Removing some of the unnecessary data can also be useful when optimizing to decrease load time.
Lack of Reviews/Testimonials
This point is important. It establishes credibility. Studies have found that if you can include a video testimonials your conversion percentages rise dramatically. I would invest in these immediately. We live in a world that is becoming more and more transparent so in order to dominate your market you need to make sure you are creating raving fans!
The location of the contact information should be both on the top and the bottom and sometimes up to 3 places on the landing page. Even with putting forms on your website to gather information from a potential customer, it is important that your contact info be listed at all times and is easy to find.
No matter how much fancy stuff is on your website, if it takes forever to load, people will bounce. This is where image optimization plays an important part to load times. There are some programs and plugins (if using wordpress) that help shrink down unnecessary large images. Compression tools such as Smush.it work well. Aside from image compression, using a hosting service that is optimal for your content is also important to load times. Certain hosting companies are optimal for wordpress sites and if your web traffic is growing, looking into a dedicated hosting solution ie. Amazon AWS might be a solution.
